| NEW DIRECTION FOR THE CITY |

There is no doubt a new direction for our city is in our future. On February 10, 2009 you will have the opportunity to decide how Fort Lauderdale will be run. There will be choices in all the districts of our city. In addition to the Mayor, two commission seats will experience term limits. You choice will determine how our city operates, how your tax dollars are spent, how development is allocated, which economic enterprises come to our city to name a few.
I have served you as a commissioner for the past three years. I have been a part of our community for over 50 years. I have served in various capacities of civic and leadership roles in addition to a 20 year professional career while raising three children. I am a member of the St. Anthony parish and previously a substitute teacher at their school. I have a strong commitment to our city’s history and I have embraced the diversity that makes our city unique. I have experienced the public school system first hand and have grown up surrounded by both of Fort Lauderdale’s leading industries, Tourism and Marine in which my family participated.
In addition to serving as your district commissioner I also serve on the Broward Cultural Council, the Metropolitan Planning Organization and presently I am serving as the Vice Mayor of the City.
A new direction for the city will be needed in order to meet the financial needs, maintain a viable city and keep your taxes at a minimum. In today’s economy we cannot afford to increase your taxes, instead we must reduce the waste in government and prioritize the spending. I have recommended a strategic planning session beginning in February. Getting government spending under control would be a great first step towards our new direction.
