DEVELOPMENT
I was elected in 2006 on a strong platform for better projects and higher standards for development. I immediately gathered support from all areas of the city and presented to my colleagues on the city commission my vision.

The first was to review all the past master plans that where done for The Barrier Island. I asked that they be consolidated and updated to begin the next phase towards a better beach. My goal is a beach for residents, tourist and investors alike. The commission agreed and the work began. This was not an easy task since the parties where at opposite ends of the spectrum. As we proceeded through the process of public workshops, citizen and developer input, in conjunction with our consultant, a new partnership was formed. The new plan when finalized for the beach will include extensive public areas, new and improved landscape designs, zoning changes to allow for varied uses, in addition to a new concept for the International Swimming Hall of Fame Complex.

Simultaneously I worked with neighborhoods to create a new zoning category to protect the integrity of the neighborhoods and to ensure compatibility with the existing single family homes.

The worked continued with the finalization of the South Middle River neighborhood master plan, and the Northwest/Progresso/Flagler Heights Implementation Plan, which will both serve as guides for their neighborhood revitalization process.

In the downtown and near downtown areas of the District 2, I worked with the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), local developers and residents to ensure their desired project and neighborhood enhancement concepts were brought to fruition.

At my suggestion, the city is developing a new underground infrastructure plan for existing neighborhoods that desire to bury their electric, cable and telephone lines. I look forward to the completion and implementation of this plan in 2009.
