Charlotte's Story
Charlotte was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan at the University of Michigan Hospital. Her parents met on Fort Lauderdale Beach during Spring Break in the late 40’s. Her father was on break from University of Michigan and Charlotte’s mother Patricia or Titia as she was known was vacationing with her parents. Upon their return to the north, Patricia who was from New York, would later follow Robert (Bob) back to college in Michigan. They decided once again to spend Spring Break in Fort Lauderdale and stopped off in Georgia to marry. Upon their return to school they had Charlotte in 1953 and Sara 20 months later. After graduation the couple moved to their dream destination Fort Lauderdale with 2 year old Charlotte and her little sister in tow.

Charlotte’s father was a general contractor, naval architect and a marine engineer. These exceptional skills allowed him to establish a life for his family in Fort Lauderdale.

Charlotte attended Harbordale Elementary and would walk to school along with her sister and little brother. Her childhood was filled with experiences relating to the building industry, hotel and yachting businesses since both her parents worked in these fields. Charlotte’s father designed and built both the vessel and the hotel in which the family made their living. Charlotte’s mother worked and managed the hotel while her father worked and managed the boat charter business.
